I missed this earlier, but apparently Judge Greer has tired of issuing stays to Terri Schiavo's parents. The three week stay issued last Friday will be the last stay from his bench because, in his words, "There will always be 'new' issues" - a tragic but in some ways and understandable decision, given that this case has degenerated into a pitiful family feud fought through perpetual legal wrangling. So unless Terri's parents can put together a case that convinces another judge that Michael is not fit to be Terri's guardian, and this new judge issues a new court order overturning the previous court order granting Michael the right to remove Terri's feeding tube, then her starvation will commence in three weeks.
Blogger LaShawn Barber is incensed:
Liberals will hold vigils for murderous thugs on death row, thugs who are receiving the due penalty of their errors, but when an INNOCENT brain-damaged woman whose husband has two kids with another woman and may have put her in this state is facing death by starvation, they’ve got nothing to say. The greatest cause is protecting INNOCENT human life. Where are the feminists? Where are the Mumia Abu-Jamal clowns?
I agree with her, and find the Left's supposed concern for the innocent to be selective at best.
I recieved this comment on my first Schiavo post:
The lefty blogs you cite are more interested in policy than human interest stories, which is what the Schiavo story is. Until y'all start connecting this story about a single person with some actual thoughts and recommendations about policy, it'll continue to sound like a Lifetime movie. I find those movies boring, just as I find this particular saga boring.
... which has a ring of truth to it. Actually, it says a lot about the true motives of the Left. It's not really about saving an individual life; it's about government policy. Specifically it's about ending the death penalty. That's where the Mumia crowd is coming from. They care less about Mumia than they do about ending the death penalty. Ditto for Roe v. Wade or any other case trumped up by the ACLU in order to promulgate their social agenda. They could care less about Norma McCorvey (the real 'Jane Roe') or any other sacrificial lamb dragged through the courts in the hopes of winning an activist victory.
PS - take a minute to read my commenter's blog. His writing is quite good.
And remember to keep Terri and the Schindler family in your prayers.
