Web/Blog roundup
UK blogger Charmaine Yoest interviewed a number of passers-by yesterday in London. Almost all of them singled out Bush and Blair and the military engagement of terrorists in Iraq as the reason for the bombings. A few even suggested a Bush-Blair conspiracy behind the bombings. (h/t WizBang)
Markos "Screw Them" Moulitsas, the fearless leader of Daily Kos, finally loses his cool and pledges to ban moonbat conspiracy nuts from his website. You know, the ones who believe that Bush and Blair ordered the CIA to plant the bombs in order to get the Downing Street Memo out of the news. Which will leave, I don't know, maybe three users? (h/t WizBang again)
A superb essay from Victor Davis Hanson at National Review Online, once again outlining the true factors behind Islamic terrorism - religious extremism, totalitarian governments with impotent economies that encourage barbaric treatment of women and minorities, and the overwhelming desire of Middle Eastern leaders to blame someone else (i.e. the US and Israel) for their woes. Make sure you read this one.
LaShawn Barber opened a comment thread on her blog to solicit ideas from readers regarding the current war on terror, whether or not it has been successful, and what we should be doing differently. Of course spam and moonbats forced her to close it down, but the comments posted make for interesting reading.
Double Toothpicks has a hard-hitting essay on Palestinian terror, reminding us that the Palestinians are responsible for numerous, continuous attacks against Israel that are identical to yesterday's London bombings. And how does the West deal with Palestine? We give them $3 billion.
Michelle Malkin points to an interesting body of evidence surrounding a man named Mohamed Guerbouzi, a known Al Qaeda accomplice and a decade-long resident of London.
Unfortunately, one of the complications of due process law is that when we err on the side of caution and decide not to arrest suspects simply for being suspicious, we inevitably let many who are truly dangerous slip through our fingers. Both the US and the UK have a great respect for human rights; for the last three decates this principle has been hijacked by liberals, who automatically assume that criminal profiling done on the basis of race or religion is inherently unjust and evil. It is my observation that the political Left is far more concerned with smearing their opponents as racists and bigots than they are with actually putting terrorists and terrorist sympathizers behind bars.
And while we're on the subject of British terror ties, let's not forget the freakish, one-eyed, hook-handed radical Islamic cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri, who was arrested last year in Britain and charged with attempting to set up an Al Qaeda training camp. According to Wikipedia, al-Masri is still imprisoned in England and will go on trial this month. I would guess that the bombings will not help his case. al-Masri was the imam of Finsbury Park Mosque in north London, and was reported to have been an inspirational figure to 'shoe bomber' Richard Reid. The Jawa Report has an interesting recent post regarding al-Masri and the vile filth that he taught his followers.
It's disturbing to read about the young Londoners who blame Blair and Bush for the 7/7 attacks. Of course metropolitan London is probably alot like New York - a magnet for the young, smart, trendy, and liberal. In that light, the "blame Blair/Bush" remarks are probably not unexpected, but they are disheartening. Any Briton 65 years ago who would dare to blame Churchill for the war, or to suggest that Britain brought WWII on itself, would have been taken out into the street and given a good hard beating.
Sadly, these attitudes are the product of 50 years of post-modern thinking, where there is no absolute right or wrong and where Westerners have been conditioned to believe that they are to blame for all of the world's ills.
Islamo-fascism can only be stopped if America, Western Europe, and Israel commit themselves to doing these things:
1. Elimination (yes, killing) of as many "holy warriors" as is necessary to convince Islamo-fascists that they have no hope of winning a military victory. I believe that they will quit before they are down to the last man.
2. The establishment of a free, prosperous, Islamic nation which will act as a beacon of hope and an inspiration to the youth of impoverished Middle Eastern nations, and which will draw them away from the lure of radical Islam as a solution to their problems.
3. Dismantling the sham, terror-enabling "Palestinian" government and calling its terrorist leaders what they truly are - terrorists. Also outing other terror-sponsoring governments, and ending US aid until they come completely clean like Libya.
4. Calling the despotic, dictatorial, and repressive Middle Eastern governments what they truly are - despotic, dictatorial, and repressive regimes with no real economy, no freedom, and no opportunities for their citizens; also, refusing to wallow in guilt or navel-gaze each time the Middle East blames the US or Israel for its problems.
5. Recognizing the true evil of radical Islamo-fascism, and working with private international organizations to stamp out the teaching of racist, bigoted, and destructive ideologies to Middle Eastern school children and to eliminate the abuse of women. This step may be the most difficult, because it demands that we recognize, publicly identify, and condemn evil as evil - even if it is a part of someone else's religious heritage.
It won't be easy, but these things must be done if we really want to win this war.
