The changing of the Guard

Has anyone noticed that just within the past two years, the image of the National Guard in the eyes of the American political Left has gone from being a stateside fluff assignment for white, rich, draft-dodging frat boys, to being a haven for buck-toothed, inbred, redneck white cracker prison guards sent straight from the chain gang into Abu Graib prison, to currently being a highly skilled and disciplined rescue and law enforcement unit that can be deployed anywhere in the United States within hours of a simple phone call from the President. 

Isn't it amazing how pliable something can be when it must constantly be reshaped to fit an agenda.  I suppose the only common thread between all of these versions of the Guard is that they are all somehow the responsibility of President Bush.  Or is it that his responsibilities have to keep changing in order to keep up with the Left's political agenda?  I guess I'm just hopelessly confused.

And has anyone else noticed that the Left -- the same folks who for the past 40 years have derided the US military as the single greatest force of evil in the world -- are suddenly elevating the US military to the lofty position of spotless peace keepers, emergency response coordinators, and rescue workers.  I doubt that the complete disappearance of Mama Moonbat, Cindy Sheehan, from the media radar is a complete coincidence either.  You can't promote the military both as a source of goodness and a source of evil at the same time.
