Associated Press story here.
And this ABC News poll found that almost 3/4 of Iraqis say that their lives are going well in their country, and two thirds expect things to improve over the next year. Troubles remain, and the Iraqi people are (understandably) ready for the American military to finish its job and move on. But overall the news from Iraq is good. Sadly, some people still do not understand how the elimination of secret police and government torture chambers can result in such a positive outlook from a once-oppressed people.
We should pray for Iraq, for a peaceful and relatively trouble-free election, and for a unification of the Iraqi people that will finally seal the doom of Al Qaeda's minions who have invaded that nation and who are trying to destroy what so many have given their lives to build.
