While I was at GodBlogCon, thousands of angry blacks descended on Washington DC to blame white people for their plight, particularly George W. Bush and the Republican party.
Michelle Malkin has posted a quote from rapper Wyclef Jean (which at this time is not confirmed by any other media news outlets) in which he spoke of the war in Iraq and noted that "Father Saddam cries in prison."
If this is true, then it is probably the single most outrageous piece of ignorant rhetoric that I have heard so far this year, orders of magnitude ahead of Bill Bennett or Howard Dean. I'll keep on this and update this post when I have a confirmation. And I'll try to be civil and avoid a rant.
I know it's a cliche observation that "the enemy of your enemy is your friend." We've seen this sentiment manifested in illogical and foolish causes within the leftist black community before, most notably the case of cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal (Wesley Cook). Black liberals would eagerly release a convicted cop killer (and one convicted on the basis of strong evidence by a jury that only took two hours to deliberate the penalty phase of Jamal's trial, I might add) just to spite the "white injustice system."
But to suggest that Saddam Hussein, one of the most truly evil men of the last 50 years, is somehow the embodiment of a father-figure for black Americans? It truly boggles the mind. Mumia was convicted of killing one man; coming to his defense is at least understandable. But Saddam killed perhaps a million or more through attrition, poison, disease, warfare, torture, and imprisonment. Such a position can only reflect woeful ignorance or a frightening willfulness to ignore truth. Arguing that American Blacks and Saddam Hussein both share some kind of common experience because they are both the "enemies" of George W. Bush is harmful logic taken to its most extreme. I doubt we would speak kindly of anyone who uttered the phrase "Father Adolf" during a public discourse.
In reading blogs to prepare for this post, I found this one. Go ahead, click the link and read it. I'll be here when you get back. And if you don't, you'll have no idea what I'm talking about in the next paragraph.
I'd love to open a dialog with someone like Dr. Winbush. For one thing, his plan for reparations (and you know he has one) is not spelled out on his site. It's a free Blogger site, I know, but if the man has dedicated his professional career to the subject of reparations, then posting a simple exposition of what he wants should be very easy. But the problem with people like Dr. Winbush is that they are more interested in using nonsense words like "Blackpeople," "Afrika," and "Amerikkkans" than they are in solving problems. Thus, they simply cannot be taken seriously. You can't dialog with a cartoon caricature.
Mike,
I watched some of this event on C-Span,and I'm sure if you really wanted to waste your time too you can watch it via the net.
It's sad that some people just can't live in reality :)
