Our prayers are needed for Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage yesterday while being hospitalized for a routine heart procedure. Through my experience with loved ones who suffered this same fate, I know that the situation is grave, and that even if Sharon lives it is highly unlikely that he will recover most of his mental faculties.
Sharon is hated by the Palestinians and by regional Arabs because he served the Israeli military for decades as commander of special ops forces (that is, those who hunted out and killed Arab and Palestinian terrorists) and because, as commander of an Israeli armored division and head of the ID southern command, he led the crossing of the Suez Canal during the Yom Kippur war in 1973.
He was traditionally seen as a militant, hard-liner against the Palestinians, but he surprised everyone last year by agreeing to a unilateral Israeli pull-out from the Gaza Strip area. Ironically, Sharon may have had the last laugh over that sequence of events, as the Palestinians have turned the once-prosperous Gaza into a wasteland through rampages, looting, theft, arson, and continual attacks on one another. In my opinion Sharon knew what he was doing; giving Gaza to the Palestinians served to prove how utterly unorganized and incompetent they are, in terms of establishing a peaceful, prosperous, law-abiding state.
May God grant Ariel Sharon peace and rest.
ADDED: (*sigh*) Not again. Please, Rev. Robertson, just stop talking.
