John McCain is officially back in the race. Rudy Giuliani is in big trouble. Fred Thompson is, for all intents and purposes, through. It looks to me like the Republican race will be a three-way contest between Huckabee, Romney, and McCain.
There was no Hillary "comeback" because she was never out of the race. Her husband still calls the shots in the Democratic party, and Hillary is owed this nomination (at least as far as she is concerned). Forget the "crying game." That little stunt pales in comparison to the organization and footwork done by the Hillary campaign in New Hampshire. Obviously they were motivated by the Iowa loss, but it seems that her operatives were simply able to push a lot of people into the voting booths, particularly middle-age women and union members. That's all there was to her "big" three percentage point win. Well, that plus the fact that much of Hillary's negative press probably originated from her own campaign. That Obama came so close, though, must still be very troubling to her, as well as the brutal reality that the press, Hollywood, and the Democratic party seemed ready to dump her like yesterday's news if she suffered only two insignificant (in terms of delegates) primary losses.
Pre-election polling was accurate except for the Hillary-Obama match-up. Pundits call this the "Bradley effect." In order to protect their image as the friend of the black man, Democrats will officially go on the record in large numbers in support of black candidates, but when they get in the voting booth and begin to think "who will really deliver for me, and who has the best chance of winning the general election" they invariably pull the lever for the white candidate.
Barak Obama is now in position to become "the comeback kid" if he wins Michigan, Nevada, or S. Carolina. Obama just won the big union endorsement in Las Vegas; if he does the same in Michigan, he could pull off some substantial wins.
Isn't it ironic that Hillary Clinton must destroy a black man in order to get the Democratic nomination for president? I'm sure she never imagined herself faced with the task of "keeping the black man down" in order to become President. I don't think that such a thing will change how blacks vote, but it will certainly damage the Clintons' reputation as a "black" First-family.
Finally -- this is a bit far out, but I wonder if anti-Christian Democrats were rattled by the fact that in
Iowa, the population group that picked Barak Obama also picked Mike
Huckabee. To the extreme religion-hating far Left, Christian = "fascist"; they
have even cited Ron Paul's Meet The Press interview as proof that "everyone" knows about Huckabee's
inherent evil. Could this have had something to do with Obama's sudded
dip in New Hampshire?
