"The way to continue our fight now, to accomplish the goals for which we stand is to take our energy, our passions, our strengths and do all we can to help elect Barack Obama the next president of the United States. Today, as I suspend my campaign, I congratulate him on the victory he has won and the extraordinary race he has run. I endorse him and throw my full support behind him." - Hillary Rodham Clinton, June 7, 2008
Hillary Clinton is officially out of the race for Democratic nominee for President of the United States. Watching her campaign during the last two months was like watching the air slowly leak out of a punctured tire.
She still needs your help, though, to pay off more that $30 million in campaign debts. Won't you do your part by investing in America Hillary ... or ... something? I strongly suspect that if she still had money in the bank, she would not have thrown in the towel today.
Yet some Hillary supporters say that they would rather see John McCain elected than support Barack Obama. Check out PUMA ("Party Unity My Ass"). (h/t Michelle Malkin)
This is interesting, since Democrats are well-known for their ability to put aside their differences (or sometimes temporarily disappear controversial party members) and rally behind their candidates in general elections. Whether or not such bitterness is still around in November remains to be seen.
