The new John McCain ad mocking Barack Obama's "messiah" image is fantastic:
And what makes it even better is Obama's utter inability to laugh at himself. Or for that matter, for liberals laugh at themselves or at Obama.
It's the first of August, with roughly 100 days left in the campaign. We're still pre-convention for both parties, but the nominees have been "chosen" since May. And more clearly than ever, we see just what Barack Obama's domestic "change" will look like.
First off -- higher taxes. Much higher taxes.
He will soak "the rich," those ne'er-do-well's who pay the top marginal income tax rate. He'll increase that rate by 10 percent, add more Social Security tax, and possibly reconfigure the Alternative Minimum Tax to take even more income, without the ability to deduct state or local income taxes. Add it all up, and top income earners could end up paying as much as 70% of their income in taxes.
Is it moral for the government to tell a group of people, "We don't like the way you live your life, so we're going to help ourselves to 70% of everything you earn?" I don't think so.
He will soak "Big Oil," that shadowy global conglomerate that dares to earn a 9.5% profit on its revenues. And then he'll give the money back to us in the form of energy rebates. No thanks. In announcing this plan, Obama has just as much admitted that he is either unwilling or unable to work toward a market-driven solution to current energy price woes. He and his fellow Democrats refuse to allow American oil companies to expand our own domestic oil production, all the while "hoping" for a miracle cure in the form of "alternative energy." But until that miracle cure arrives, what are we to do? Obama's solution seems to be to punish oil companies, who are apparently committing some kind of sin by earning money selling fossil fuels. It's the same old "Robin Hood" game that Democrats have been playing since the Great Depression, a game proven to increase fuel prices, decrease supplies, and discourage domestic oil production. Great. Just what we need.
But don't worry, Europeans love the guy. And why not? He'll cure the sick. He'll end poverty. He'll cool the oceans and heal our planet. He'll never allow us "to go back to our lives as usual." Big stuff.
More Messiah mockery -- hey, laugh a little!
Then there are the disturbing trends within the American press. There is no objectivity with respect to Barack Obama. Political donations from members of the press favor Democrats 100 to 1. Journalists swoon and cheer whenever Obama takes the stage. And in one of the most blatant examples of press bias ever, the New York Times refused to print a rebuttal editorial by John McCain, written in response to a published editorial penned by Barack Obama. The reason? McCain's reply simply wasn't what the NYT editorial board wanted to read.
While we're on the subject, here's another brilliant McCain ad mocking the news media's obsession with Obama:
But the American people aren't as dumb as we might think. Half of them recently told Rasmusen that they think the media is in the tank for Obama.
One hundred days. A little over three months to mull over "change" in the form of drastically higher taxes, much more intrusive government, failed energy policies from the 1970's, an incoherent plan for Iraq, and some of the goofiest campaign promises and starry-eyed dreams ever uttered by a serious Presidential candidate, all lapped up by a fawning press.
Is this what we want for the next four years?
