FACT: Of all the wild accusations that emerged in the four days following Sarah Palin's VP nomination, this was undoubtedly the most unbelievable of all.
This story seems to have originated in the imagination of Daily Kos diarist Inky99, who posted "Palin's faked "pregnancy"? Covering for teen daughter?" at Daily Kos on August 29. The evidence? Sarah Palin "simply doesn't look pregnant" in photographs taken before Trig was born.
From there, a firestorm of speculation and mockery swept through Daily Kos and other liberal fever swamp blogs -- Bristol Palin had allegedly "disappeared" for months, Sarah Palin was wearing a "pregnant suit" for photo ops, and so on. Michael Moore said, "Show Us The DNA." Several more mainstream sources, including Canadian television and the London Times, mentioned the Sarah/Bristol pregnancy rumor.
Curiously, this rumor was circulating concurrently with the "Sarah Palin neglected proper pre-natal care" rumor. The fact that each of the two rumors invalidated the other seemed to be lost on the minions of the unhinged left.
The following week, the Palin family publicly announced that Bristol was in fact five months pregnant with the child of her long-time boyfriend, Levi Johnston. According to the NY Daily News, Bristol's pregnancy was an open secret back in Wasilla, Alaska.
A pregnant Bristol and her boyfriend appeared onstage with Sarah Palin at the RNC convention on Sept. 3. By that time, embarrassed liberals were already trying to stuff their previous demands for paternity tests and DNA evidence down the collective memory hole.
